What is Rivanne™ Engineered Hemp Fiber?
Rivanne™ is Valinor’s proprietary engineered plant fiber. It is a regeneratively-grown hemp that is restructured so that we can control the shape and internal structure of the fiber so that it can be made into a fabric that performs like activewear based on how the fiber is built, not from chemistry added on top. Why hemp? Why not cotton or some other natural fiber?
MISSION: Valinor’s core mission is two parts. In addition to providing wellness-supporting clean activewear, we are actively restoring degraded tropical rainforest soils to be replanted with native rainforest species. That is why we grow hemp. Hemp is one of few plants that enriches the soil in which it is planted in terms of organic carbon and nutrient fixing from the air. It also has strong, deeply penetrating tap roots so it is able to break into the layers of soil to aerate and enrich more of it.
We make the roots do double duty for biodiversity: When planting the seeds, we mix the seeds in beneficial mycorrhizal fungi so that as the roots grow, they are also helping to rebuild the underground fungal networks that transport nutrients between plants, support microbial biodiversity, and bring the soil back to life.
BENEFITS: Hemp also requires no water irrigation especially since we plant in tropical regions; requires no pesticides as it has its own natural defenses, and requires no herbicides for weeds because it grows so fast that it prevents weeds from growing and, for fiber, we plant the seeds close to each other to encourage faster growing, taller stalks.
COTTON: Cotton is one of the most chemically treated crops in the United States in terms of both pesticides and fertilizers. GOTS-certified organic or organic regenerative cotton are preferable but even these cleaner options consume significantly more water to bring the crop to harvest.
Where is the hemp for Valinor’s Rivanne™ fibers grown?
Our core mission is two parts. In addition to providing wellness-supporting clean activewear, we are actively restoring degraded tropical rainforest soils to be replanted with native rainforest species. This current batch of fibers is made from hemp plants grown on 49 acres of land in Thailand.
How does Valinor grow its hemp plants?
Valinor leverages hemp for fiber for many reasons on the fiber side and for its benefits to soil, but also so we can provide a clean performance fiber without the need for added chemistries. For all of those reasons, we adhere to regenerative growing practices. Since we plant in tropical regions, our hemp requires no irrigation for water. We don’t apply and don’t require pesticides as hemp has its own natural defenses. We don’t apply or require herbicides for weeds because hemp grows so fast that it prevents other species from growing under its canopy, and, for fiber, we plant the seeds close to each other to encourage faster growing, taller stalks, which also helps to crowd out anything that we don’t want included in our harvest.

Is Valinor’s hemp organic?
Our strict scientist-led claims-policy approves that we use no pesticides and no synthetic fertilizers or other artificial agents so, Yes, Valinor Hemp is grown organically, but it’s not certified. Why? Because we actually go beyond organic with our regenerative growing practices
We’re not an “avoid harm” sustainable brand, we’re an “actually do good” regenerative brand going beyond non-toxic, organic, or sustainable to rebuild soil and protect people.
Organic farming focuses on what inputs are prohibited (avoiding synthetic chemicals and GMOs) with the aim of doing no harm. Regenerative agriculture focuses on actively improving ecosystem health by prioritizing soil restoration, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity. That regenerative aspect is core to our mission, so farming organically is just a small part of that.
Why is Valinor’s hemp grown organically but not certified organic?
Other brands source their materials from manufacturing partners or catalogs so they need certifications to know where their materials came from and to back it up with 3rd party proof. Valinor doesn’t order fiber or fabric from a catalog. Valinor actually selects the hemp seeds, picks out the land for planting, selects and applies the mycorrhizal support, and directs the planting process for each of its planting campaigns, so we know that it meets our organic and regenerative farming requirements. We may go the extra step of getting certifications in the future, but for now we’re focused on results over labels.
What is the problem with Polyester or Nylon?
Hormonal Impacts: Synthetic plastic polymers like nylon and polyester can carry small molecule residues from their manufacturing processes that convert petroleum ingredients into plastic polymers.
As fibers and fabrics, these plastics do not natively provide the performance attributes desired in active wear, so they are treated with topical chemical finishes to make them wick moisture, resist bacteria, or perform in other ways. These chemical finishes can transfer to skin and do transfer to our water and food systems. They include endocrine disrupting PFAS “forever chemicals”, endocrine and hormone dysregulating formaldehyde, phthalates, and BPA - having potential impacts, over the long term, on general health, fertility, and quality of life.
Cellular Function: In the nearer term, synthetic polymers can impact skin health and healing, hair growth, and cellular function beyond just the skin level. These synthetic plastic fibers build up a static charge as they rub against each other and your skin. That electrostatic charge has been shown in several studies to disrupt not only the cellular function of the skin (healing a wound, skin health, hair growth, in dogs), but also sperm count, structure, motility, and viability (humans), and female fertility (dogs).
Long-term environmental and human health: Synthetic plastic fabrics also release microplastic fibers and particles from the moment they leave the factory, throughout its life in your wardrobe, during washing, and after you discard it. Those fibers travel through wastewater treatment, accumulate in agricultural sludge applied to farmland, enter rivers and oceans, and they enter your body through the food you eat, the water you drink, and the air you breathe.
The route that puts microplastics inside you is not primarily skin contact with worn clothing, though it is one way, that’s more of a route for other small molecule chemicals. The primary routes are ingestion through food and water, and inhalation from the air. Once the particles are inside you, they tend to stay. Those particles provide physical and electrochemical disruption as well as a potential source of residual chemical release from degradation products.
What is Taurenna™ Fabric
Taurenna™ is a proprietary performance fabric made from 91% Rivanne™ Engineered Hemp Fiber. The fabric has a double-knit construction to give it structure, more compression with less elastic material, a heavier weight, extra softness, and to make it squat-proof under stretch.
The stretch comes from the fabric knit design and the inclusion of only 9% bio-based elastane that is partially derived from corn.

Have you conducted 3rd party chemical testing on your fabrics?
Yes, a summary of results is below and you can see the full testing page and the test report file here.
Taurenna™ Fabric is tested in its finished form after being dyed and assembled into garments; nothing is added after that so these test results are performed on the final fabric you would put against your skin.
The testing is done by a 3rd party laboratory located in Marietta, GA which is certified to ISO-9001 standards with ISO-17025 accreditation for EPA, ASTM, and AATCC methods. Our most recent testing is from August 2026 and yielded the following results:
- For Bisphenol A: Taurenna™ fabric was tested with 1 part per billion sensitivity and no BPA was detected.
- For Phthalates: Taurenna™ fabric was screened for all 10 regulated phthalate categories and no phthalates were detected.
- For PFAS: Taurenna™ fabric was screened for 14,700+ PFAS compounds and no PFAS was detected.
- For Formaldehyde: Taurenna™ fabric was tested with 3 parts per million sensitivity and no formaldehyde was detected.
Why do you say your Hemp is regeneratively grown?
Regenerative agriculture focuses on actively improving ecosystem health by prioritizing soil restoration, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity. That regenerative aspect is core to our mission and it’s why we’re able to say our hemp is regeneratively grown.
We restore soil by sequestering carbon from the air, increasing organic matter in the soil, increasing soil biodiversity and rebuilding sub-soil fungal networks - all without pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or very much water even, since we plant strategically to restore degraded rainforest soils.
Is elastane required for stretch or compressive athletic wear?
Currently, yes, some form of elastane is required to create fabrics that stretch for fit, support during movement, and recover after wear. However, Valinor is not a brand that just sources nice designs, in addition to growing our hemp, customizing the fiber processing steps, and custom designing our garments, we also have an active R&D program led by our chief scientist - and we are actively working to go from 91% plant fiber in our proprietary Taurenna™ stretch fabric to 100% plant fiber with plant-based stretch so that it all comes from the soil and is able to naturally return to the soil at the end of its life.
